Franchisee Case Study

Ian Cain, NBC Bird and Pest Solutions franchisee, has achieved high success in the most unusual franchise in the industry.

Back in 2004, Ian was working as an Environmental Health and Safety Consultant in Edinburgh.

Although earning a good income, Ian felt he wanted to move his life in a new direction and visited the National Franchise Exhibition in Birmingham.

At the Exhibition, Ian came across the very different NBC Bird and Pest Solutions, who offer an unusual business opportunity unique to franchising, one aspect of which involves using birds of prey to control nuisance birds. This idea captured Ians imagination leading him to visit the NBC Head Office in Norfolk to learn more.

In 2005, Ian completed his training and began building his greenfield territory in Scotland with his new bird of prey colleagues. Working hard, Ian made inroads with clients such as National Galleries of Scotland, National Grid, Transco, bp, Schlumberger, Arnold Clarke Autos and a number of councils across Scotland. Ian has even given talks to school children at the school he was employed by to control gulls.

This hard work paid off with a reward of a turnover of 95,000 in his first year. Ian now employs six members of staff to share the workload and believes his success will continue to grow especially with his third years turnover projected at more than double his first.

Ian's advice is, Be prepared to work hard, be diligent in pursuing potential clients and follow the franchise system using all the advice and support your franchisor can offer you.
